Juventus have gone out of their way to put Manly-bound coach Kevin Walters on the field.
The Eels, the reigning premiers, had to go down to 10 men after a late try from James Roberts put them into a 3-0 deficit.
After the try, Walters, who has managed Manly before, was seen pushing a trainer as he left the field after the game.
“We were the ones that put him on the bench,” said the manager, who will take charge of the Eels against Newcastle on Saturday.
Manly boss Kevin Walters was on the sidelines for Manly’s final match of the season on Sunday.
It was the last match for Walters.
Manuals for Manus and Manly are due to be handed out tomorrow.
Manus head coach Mike McCarthy said Walters was “out for a while”.
McCarthy added that Manly had already lost several players in the build-up to the game but said Walters would be “the one to blame” for missing the trip to the Sydney Stadium.
Manuel Pasalic scored the Manus’ only try on Sunday and was the man responsible for Manu’s first try, which was converted by Ben Te’o.
“I can’t imagine him missing the game, he was out there for a bit,” Pasalich said.
“The whole game was really tight, the ref didn’t have the time to call the two penalties.
I don’t think it was an ideal atmosphere, the only thing I can say is we were out for a long time.”
Manus coach Paul McGregor said he had seen no indication Walters was suffering from any illness or injury and had spoken to him by telephone.
McGregor said Manus coach Paulo Fierro had assured him Walters was in a good mood.
Manu coach Paulo “pizzazz” Fiero says his team will have a tough time at Manus.
Manua coach Paulo Pereira says he will be “very proud” of his team for beating Manus, but says his players are “going to be disappointed” if Walters is unavailable.
“It’s a tough game for us,” Pereira said.
“I’m very proud of the team.
The win is a huge bonus but I don`t want to see them lose.”
Manu captain Manu Vatuvei says the Manu team have shown great character and he expects to see Walters in action in the next few weeks.
“Manus are a great team and I’m sure we’re going to give them a hard time,” Vatuvesi said.
The win lifts Manus to third in the table, with three wins from their last four matches.
