A swine influenza vaccine, the first one to be licensed by the Food and Drug Administration, is expected to be available by March 15 in the United States.
This is a good time to check your health history and ask your doctor if you have been vaccinated, said Tom O’Connor, a public health and infectious disease specialist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
“The best way to do that is to get a flu shot as soon as you can, because the flu shot can prevent you from getting any additional flu, including the virus that can cause pneumonia, according to CDC.”
While you may not need a vaccine to prevent the flu, O’Connors advice is to do your research.
“If you are getting your flu shot now, be sure to get it as soon you can because you will get a better chance of preventing you from catching the flu,” he said.
The vaccine contains a strain of the influenza virus that has not been found in the wild and is a variant of the pandemic virus.
While the vaccine is highly effective, it is also a long-term solution to the pandemics respiratory infections.
The CDC recommends that people start getting vaccinated in March and the first flu shot is typically given about four months later.
If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, O’tinnes said it is important to ask your health care provider about a vaccine.
If your health-care provider doesn’t know what you need, you can ask your healthcare provider for information on getting your shot.
O’Connor recommends getting the flu vaccine as soon after the flu season starts as possible.
“The flu season begins at the end of May, so get vaccinated now before that period,” he told NBC News.
“You will not need to be in an office on the day you are first scheduled to get your shot.”
The CDC also has some tips on how to make sure you are still receiving the vaccine as of April 30.
The best time to get vaccinated is when you first start getting your shots, but O’Connell said it will be best to start getting the vaccine when you get your first shot.
If that’s not possible, O’sonnes said people should start getting their shots on the first week of the new year, and then continue to get the shots as they are recommended to do.
“Keep in mind, the flu is a mild disease and can go away within a few days,” O’Donnell said.
“So if you do not get a vaccine by April 30, you may be able to avoid getting the virus.”
